Radford, VA – SILVER’s idea was born as a result of five high school students’ initiative to promote youth voter registration and youth engagement in politics at the 2015 Virginia Governor’s School Program for the Humanities. SILVER’s mission is to increase political involvement and civic engagement among young voters through automatic voter registration upon applying for a driver’s license coupled with a lower pre-registration age. Silver aims to increase voter participation through legislation by providing a more convenient way to register to vote.

Great Falls, VA – Swetha had a meeting with retired Congressman Dennis Hertel to present SILVER. Congressman Dennis Hertel (D-MI-14th District) saw the potential in SILVER’s innovative idea and assured his support in moving forward its initiatives. Hertel was elected as a Democrat from Michigan's 14th congressional district to the 97th United States Congress and to the five succeeding Congresses, serving from January 3, 1981 to January 3, 1993.
Great Falls, VA - SILVER was incorporated as a non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization supporting youth voter advocacy.
Mclean, VA -- Swetha met with Democratic State Delegate Kathleen Murphy at the McLean office to present SILVER. Del. Murphy expressed her support for SILVER and mentioned that she would present a bill at the state level supporting SILVER’s initiative. Delegate Kathleen Murphy previously worked as a Senior Advisor for International Trade issues at the Department of Commerce and handled Congressional Affairs at USAID during the Clinton administration. She worked for Congressman Charlie Wilson (D-TX) where she
held a Top Secret security clearance and handled Defense and Foreign Operations appropriations.
Oct 8, 2015, Washington DC – Swetha met with Rep Jim McDermott (D-WA 7th District), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, at the Longworth House Office Building to present SILVER. Rep. McDermott expressed his support for SILVER and indicated that he would be happy to support a potential bill in Congress. McDermott is the Representative for Washington's 7th congressional district, serving since 1989.
Online - SILVER releases its website www.silvervoting.org to increase public awareness and gain grass-roots support from high schools and colleges across the nation.
Washington DC – Swetha met with Rep. Beyer (D- VA-8th District) to discuss adding SILVER’s initiative to the current bill in congress that he has presented to lower voter registration age to 16.
Boston, MA, Harvard College - Swetha Ramesh presented SILVER and participated in a panel discussion alongside Congressman Dennis Hertel (Ret., D-MI), State Senator Sal DiDomenico (D-MA), and Dr. Wasif Syed, named by Huffington post as the top 5 people inspiring peace.
Washington DC, Swetha Ramesh has been confirmed as a speaker at the Wharton Innovation Summit to be held in Washington D.C April 26, 27 2016. She will be presenting SILVER at the event.
